Ri Song Gum - One of DPRK's Ten Best Sportspersons for 2025
Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- Ri Song Gum, a weightlifter of the April 25 Combat Sports Team, is one of the ten best players for 2025 in the DPRK.
In the women's 48 kg category of the 2025 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships, she lifted 91 kg in snatch, 122 kg in clean and jerk (new world record) and 213 kg in total (new world record) and thus bagged three gold medals.
Born in Nyongbyon County of North Phyongan Province, she trained weightlifting skills in the country's well-established reserve training system. She has made good achievements in international games after becoming a player of a professional sports organization since 2010.
She won gold medals at the 2014 Asian Junior and Juvenile Weightlifting Championship, the 29th Summer Universiad and the 18th Asian Games.
In particular, she obtained four gold medals in the 2024 IWF World Cup and the 2024 IWF World Championships.
