Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- The agricultural sector of the DPRK is pushing forward with the work to cultivate rape in more fields.
According to an official of the Agricultural Commission, rape is an oil crop suited to the characteristics of our country with limited arable land. Per-hectare yield and oil content of its seeds are high and the oil yield is several times higher than that of beans.
Rape oil has a variety of vitamins, so it is good for human health and can be stored longer than other oil. It is also used as raw materials for light industrial products and medicines such as soap and paint.
The leaves and stems of rape can be used as vegetables and its cake as cattle feed as it has a lot of good substances.
The Saphyong Farm in Anbyon County of Kangwon Province, the Changmae Farm in Yonthan County of North Hwanghae Province and many other units have benefited from rape farming.
This year, cities and counties in South Hwanghae Province have cultivated rape in treble larger area than last year.
Rape is now growing in the vast area of the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm.
Agricultural scientists are focusing on the project to breed more species of rape with strong resistance to the disastrous weather and with high oil content and yield and short period of growth. -0-
